About Us

County Quilters Guild est. in 1987, is all about preserving the art of quilt making through sharing techniques, developing friendships, and cultivating new skills. 

We meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month from September to May at the Royal Canadian Legion, 4902-44th Ave, Stony Plain Alberta.

The County Quilters Guild was born in 1987 by Gloria McFarlane. 

The original Guild was started with about 10 members, and they met in Gloria’s home. Getting together to share their love of quilting (by hand) and visiting. There was no internet, so the members relied on magazines for patterns and did projects like blocks of the month. 

The local fabric shop, Pat’s Niche, was their go to for fabric back then. Many of you probably re-member that fabric shop in Stony, what a great place it was! As more members joined, the Guild moved to the Forest Green library in Stony Plain, then on to the Multicultural Center and then to the Stony Plain United Church. 

It wasn’t until moving into the United Church that the Guild finally had to start paying rent. From its original 10 members the Guild has grown to 60 plus members and stayed together through a pandemic and all the while keeping its original mission, preserving the art of quilt making through sharing techniques, developing friendships, and cultivating new skills. 

We can only hope that the Guild will continue to grow!
